English - Blog task "The Silver Donkey"

Task 1: Write one prargraph summary of the story "The Silver Donkey".

The Silver Donkey was a novel about 3 very courageous children who look after a lieutenant that they thought was dead lying on the ground under a tree. In this story there were many heroes and sercrets that make the book really excting or really upseting at times. Overall the Silver Donkey was a very exciting book to read and do activities on.

Task 2: Outline your opinion of the strengths and weaknesses of the novel. Give reasons and examples to justify your opinions.

Strengths in this novel would have to be when the braveness the children and Fabrice showed when they were trying to get the Lieutenant home to his sick brother John. As well as when the children after being out at night helping the Lieutentant then have to do chores to make up for it. Example for these are 'The night was cool, and growing still. The candle lit village behind them rest peacefuly. For a time, the only sound they heard was the breaking of the waves...MAcelle held the little paw tightly.... This shows that they were very brave to be out at night with no one there but themselves, during this time not even the Lieutenant or Farbice we with them. The weaknesses of the story were when they were introducing themselves and getting to know each other becuase it was quiet boring having to read parts that didn't really intrest me. Another part in the book that made me not want to read was when he was telling one of the stories to the children becuase it just kept going on and on and on until it finally ended, such as the tale about Mary and Jesus!

Task 3: List any new skills that you have learn't for completing this unit of work. How do you think these skills will help you in the future?

Skills that I have learn't from completing the unit of work is firstly I have come quiet familier on how to find and use quotes from the book in sentences and even paragraphs, this was something I was defently not able to do before. Another skill that I have benefited from is learning how to write paragraphs on questions that I have been given to answer. This will help me in the future by me knowing how to get quotes and how to put them in paragraphs and sentences!!!

LUCY’S REVENGE

Lucy played on the playground like she was the only one there. She played on her favourite part of the playground which was the bridge, it swished like a washing machine side to side, she bounced off the rails and jumped off the planks, she was having the time of her life.

Lucy paused for a moment and wondered why no-one came on the playground when she did. It kept floating through her mind, again and again. Lucy had a large birth mark on her face and she thought it made her the ugliest kid on the block. No-one would ever come near her, they would be mean and call her names, pointing their finger and laughing.

Going to the playground was a way for Lucy to forget her problems and she had been going there since she was very little. For the last few months she stopped going because she had a dream that she would have a really bad fall. Finally she decided that being scared of her dream was silly. Little did she know what was about to happen.

It had been such a long time and Lucy ran excitedly to the playground. It must have been her lucky day because there was another girl there and Lucy pushed passed her through to the slide. Lucy wasn’t ready to go but the girl thought she would play a trick and pushed her as hard as she could. Lucy felt like she was flying through the air until she had to come in for landing. The thought of having to fall to the ground made her cringe, she was screaming saying she didn’t want to fall but she knew it was coming. There was a bang, crack and the next thing she remembered was waking up with people crowding round her.

A guy in the crowd grabbed her before she knew what had happened. He rushed her to the emergency centre. Lucy was screaming and was in heaps of pain. Max was the man’s name and he reassured her that she would be fine and not to be scared.


Lucy managed to walk into the emergency centre. A doctors smiling face greeted her at the door and after the examination told her she would have to have x-rays. Doctor Marshall told her she had a fractured arm and wouldn’t be able to do anything for a long time. Lucy went into surgery and the nurses wrapped her arm in a cast. She was all drugged up on medication, feeling like she was flying in the clouds. Later she left the emergency room quite relieved. Lucy felt heaps better and wasn’t dizzy anymore. She had had tablets and needles all afternoon and was glad that was over, but not everything was over, there was still something she had to finish.

Lucy knew it was the wrong thing to do but later that afternoon she went to the playground in search of the girl who pushed her. She knew it was Mary and in a rage Lucy ran up to her and pushed her to the ground. Lucy was that furious that she could no longer feel the pain that had come back in her arm. She hated Mary for doing this, there was no excuse. Lucy’s blood was boiling and pushing Mary to the ground wasn’t good enough. She grabbed her by the arm and dragged her across the dirt. Mary was bleeding, she was crying and screaming. Lucy didn’t care, she wanted revenge and kept yelling at Mary ‘How do you like it, it’s not very nice is it, well let’s see how you like this’.

Lucy couldn’t do it. Hurting Mary meant Lucy was doing to someone else what she wouldn’t want done to herself. She apologized to Mary and Mary apologized back.
